DETAILS OF POSITION
Activity Leaders will support the House Master and Activity Manager in the delivery of the activities programme at the prestigious Harrow School boarding house this summer. Planning and leading fun activities they will work as a team to ensure the students are safe and enjoying themselves during their unique summer school experience.
The students will be aged 10-17, with up to 100 students per week. There will be evening activities running every evening and the Residential Activity Leaders will ensure these go off smoothly and are appealing to the different age ranges and nationalities in the programme. During our previous British Council inspection, strengths were noted in the areas of course design, teaching, care of under 18s, leisure opportunities, care of students and student administration and our Residential Activity Leaders play a key role in the pastoral and leisure opportunities side to summer school.
YOUR ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY:
1. To accompany groups on excursions and ensure the safety and welfare of the students, as well as providing them with information to help them get the maximum benefit from their visit
2. To ensure the success of each timetabled activity session, it is essential to thoroughly prepare. This involves:
· Comprehensive planning and promotion of the activity
· Identifying and addressing all potential hazards related to Health & Safety according to established guidelines, and making necessary provisions to prevent accidents
· Familiarising yourself with all necessary instructions and directions prior to the start of the session
· Setting up all equipment and decorations, if applicable, before the arrival of students
· Packing away all equipment and materials and tidying the activity space after the session
3. To actively encourage students’ involvement in activities, leading by example
4. To ensure that listed students are present at each session and to maintain accurate registers of their attendance
5. To provide feedback on the programme to the Activity Manager
6. If holding a specialist qualification that is eligible for an increment, to undertake duties pertaining to this
7. To supervise student behaviour both on and off campus
8. To carry out meal time and free-time supervision and, if residential, night duties on a rota basis with other residential staff. Other residential duties include morning roll calls, room checks and generally caring for the welfare of our students
9. To assist with airport transfers and student arrivals and departures
10. To assist with centre administration as directed
11. To assist in opening and closing the centre
12. Additional duties as required
