Having grown up in Brazil, teaching English wasn’t the most obvious route for Cecilia Nobre, who is now a published, highly qualified and reputable English teacher, having taught in Brazil, England and Türkiye.
Let’s be clear - the English language can be difficult. Whether it’s on a conversational level, where idioms stalk almost every sentence, or at the academic level. So, imagine navigating English for both casual chats and textbooks when it’s not even your mother tongue?
Cecilia Nobre, grew up in Brazil, absolutely fascinated by language. So, she mastered both conversational and academic English, and has since worked in English universities, and recently, co-authored a book. She’s also taught, of course, in Brazil, England and Türkiye. So we knew we’d have plenty to discuss.
Cecilia Nobre surely has as many accolades to her name as any TEFL teacher you can think of. She’s got a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Warwick, is a CertTESOL and DipTESOL trainer, has over 24 years of teaching experience to her name, is a Hornby scholar and - in case you didn’t know - English isn’t even her first language.
A teacher-educator of excellent repute with her own blog, Cecilia is an example to any non-native speaker of English who wants to make waves in the TEFL world, with a career spanning from Rio de Janeiro to England via Türkiye.Get in touch and you could be the star of our next episode!
