Season | Episode
American teacher Ilsa Strough turned down the bright city lights of Seoul or Busan and instead chose to make a new life in a more rural part of South Korea.
When it came time to pick somewhere to live and teach in South Korea, Ilsa Strough had loads of options. Seoul and Busan, for example, represent two buzzing, sprawling choices where expat communities are widespread and jobs are plentiful. Except, doing the expected isn’t exactly Ilsa’s way.
Hear about how she built an online audience, inspired countless others and fought against the stares and the culture shock of moving to rural South Korea and becoming a popular, talented TEFL talent.
Content warning: Features discussion of diet and body image.
Ilsa Strough hasn’t been teaching long - around three years, in fact - but it’s taken her no time to build a massive audience online. Ilsa regularly answers questions on her social media about body positivity, an especially tricky subject in countries like South Korea - where Ilsa teaches - which has very rigid standards of beauty and acceptable body types.
Her honesty, and utter lack of fear in exploring new places to hike and teach, have made her immensely popular, and she’s a TEFL talent and content creator we’re certainly keeping an eye on!
